4 Ways to Avoid Home Workout Boredom

4 Ways to Avoid Home Workout Boredom

Working out at home takes a lot of patience!  When you’re not at the gym, you’re going to need a fair amount of discipline and resolve to keep going. With the world currently under lockdown, more and more of us are looking for ways to keep fit and switch to home workout routines – but how can we make our workouts more fun?

There’s a danger in letting your workouts fall by the wayside, and to fall prey to comfort eating in quarantine conditions. A common concern with many gym-goers is that they are going to pile on the pounds or lose muscle mass while trapped indoors. There’s no reason for this if your workouts are always fun and engaging!

Here are some great ways to help make your home workouts more exciting during social distancing.

Connect to Trainers and PTs Through Skype

With millions of people on lockdown, especially in the UK, even personal trainers have needed to make their money in a different way. Thankfully, video calling and classes are super-easy to set up, and are great fun to get into.  A personal training session over video link can be great fun if you are working out in your own home. It’s also a good way to make sure that you keep to your fitness targets.

Be Creative with Workout Treats

If you’re working out purely inside the home, and you’re subject to lockdown, you’re going to need to be creative about rewarding yourself.  This doesn’t mean that you can tuck into a large pizza for doing 10 to 15 burpees! It means unlocking simple rewards you can achieve from the comfort of your home which aren’t going to add inches to your waistline.  Reward yourself by renting a movie, buying a new book, or taking a nice, long bath.

Set Home Workout Goals

The aim of the lockdown is, of course, to be out of it sooner rather than later.  If you’re going to be indoors for up to six months, for example, you’re going to likely want to hit more than a few personal goals.  There really is no better time! For example, you could set up a ‘bucket list’ of fitness targets to reach by quarantine’s end to get you motivated to exercise. What about 100 press-ups, 50 chin-ups, or 15,000 steps a day?  There are plenty of great fitness goals you can reach without needing to go outside.

Crank Up Your Music and Movies Loud

You can, of course, take your music with you to the gym. However, you’re also likely to be at the mercy of the fitness centre’s sound system.  Therefore, when exercising from home, don’t be afraid to switch up your entertainment a little. Motivated by music? Crank it up loud (providing it’s not 5am or after midnight!). Want to rack up the steps at home? Try watching a movie or a series through streaming – you’ll soon find yourself immersed in on-screen action, and not on your pacing.

Being stuck indoors may be a difficult time for a lot of people. However, there’s no reason why you should let your fitness goals fall behind!  Use this time to find fun new ways to hit your targets – and get creative!
