Silver Birch Cottage
Our stay at RWST Holiday Lodges was elevated by the charming ambiance of the Silver Birch Cottage—a tastefully refurbished one-bedroom retreat designed with couples in mind.
The generously sized double bedroom, complete with an en-suite featuring a spacious walk-in shower, wash basin, and w/c, provided both comfort and luxury.
The stylish open-plan living space was a highlight, adorned with plush furnishings, a sleek and well-appointed kitchen, and a separate dining area. The thoughtful design of the cottage extends beyond its interiors. Sliding doors open to reveal a private outdoor dining area, perfect for enjoying al-fresco meals and drinks.
As an added bonus, guests have access to a shared barbecue area, enhancing the overall experience of this delightful haven.
Exploring the local area
In anticipation of our stay, a week of relentless rain preceded our arrival, prompting us to equip ourselves with waterproof gear. Undeterred by the weather, we seized the opportunity to explore the nearby outdoors, especially the local waterfalls, finding that the post-downpour conditions added a unique charm to our adventure.
A waterfall off the beaten track
Venturing off the beaten path, our first destination revealed a hidden gem—a breathtaking double waterfall accessible via a short, picturesque walk. While we had stumbled upon this spot during the summer, the falls were dry, fueling our desire to return during the colder months.
Our decision to revisit was rewarded, as the cascading water in its winter splendor surpassed our expectations, making it a truly unforgettable experience.
Lunch at Y Stablau in Betws y Coed
Our exploration led us to Y Stablau in Betws y Coed, a delightful family-run pub that offered a culinary experience like no other. Nestled in the heart of the village and conveniently close to the lodges, Y Stablau boasts an eclectic, locally sourced menu paired with a selection of craft beers.
The classic ambiance of this modern village inn provided a perfect backdrop for our lunch, complemented by a beautifully designed outdoor seating area equipped with heaters—an inviting space even during the colder months.
The combination of delicious cuisine and charming surroundings made it a memorable dining experience.
Aber Falls walking trail
With our bellys full, our exploration continued to the iconic Aber Falls, situated approximately two miles south of the charming village of Abergwyngregyn in Gwynedd, Wales.
This majestic waterfall is a captivating sight, as the Afon Goch cascades dramatically, plummeting around 120 feet over a sill of igneous rock in the foothills of the Carneddau range.
The sheer natural beauty of Aber Falls left us in awe, making it a must-visit destination for any nature enthusiast.
Cheese, wine and a cosy eve at the lodge
Returning to the lodge after a day filled with adventures, we embraced a well-deserved downtime.
The evening unfolded with a delightful spread featuring a cheese board, a selection of fine wines, and, of course, a special birthday cake in celebration of my day.
It was the perfect way to unwind and savor the moments in the cosy comfort of our lodge.
Overall thoughts:
Our getaway to RWST Holiday Lodges in Snowdonia proved to be a symphony of nature, comfort, and delightful discoveries. From the tranquil charm of the Silver Birch Cottage to the cascading beauty of hidden waterfalls, and the culinary delights at Y Stablau, every element of this birthday weekend was carefully woven into a tapestry of joy.
Until the next adventure, we reflect on a weekend well spent and a birthday celebrated in a setting that felt like home away from home.
